LASIK and cataract pre-assessment in Kathmandu

Vision Concern checks your eyes before LASIK or cataract surgery and refers you to a surgical eye hospital. We do not perform surgery ourselves. A pre-assessment starts with a comprehensive eye examination (NPR 400) by our optometrists at Lazimpat, Boudha-Tushal or Makalbari, open every day 8:00 AM–8:30 PM.

At a glance

  • What we do: eye examination, prescription check, advice on whether surgery is worth exploring, and referral
  • What we don't do: LASIK, PRK or cataract surgery (these are done at surgical eye hospitals)
  • Comprehensive eye examination: NPR 400 (about US$3)
  • English-speaking optometrists, card and cash accepted

Who this is for

  • Thinking about LASIK: you want to know whether your prescription is stable and whether refractive surgery is worth a specialist consultation.
  • Told you may have a cataract: you want your vision checked, your current glasses reviewed, and a referral for a surgical opinion.
  • Visitors and expats: you are considering eye surgery in Nepal and want an independent eye check first.

What happens at your visit

  1. Eye examination. Our optometrist measures your vision and prescription and checks the health of the front of your eyes.
  2. Prescription history. Bring your old glasses or prescriptions. LASIK candidates usually need a stable prescription, and your history helps show that.
  3. Advice. We explain what we found and whether a surgical consultation makes sense, or whether glasses or contact lenses are the better option for now.
  4. Referral. If surgery is worth exploring, we refer you to a surgical eye hospital for the detailed tests and the final decision.

Before you come

  • Contact lens wearers: tell us when you book. Surgical hospitals usually ask you to stop wearing contact lenses for a period before their tests, and we can advise you.
  • Bring your current glasses, any old prescriptions and a list of medicines you take.

If surgery isn't right for you

Many people are better served by modern lenses. We can show you options such as ZEISS progressive lenses or contact lenses, with single-vision glasses usually ready the same day.

Frequently asked questions

Does Vision Concern perform LASIK or cataract surgery?

No. Vision Concern provides the eye examination and pre-assessment and refers you to a surgical eye hospital. The surgery and the hospital's own pre-surgery tests take place there.

How much does a pre-assessment cost?

It starts with a comprehensive eye examination, which costs NPR 400 (about US$3). The surgical hospital charges separately for its own tests and surgery.

Can I get a LASIK check as a tourist in Kathmandu?

Yes. Book online or on WhatsApp at any of our three branches. Our optometrists speak English.

Do I need to stop wearing contact lenses first?

For our eye examination, usually not. Surgical hospitals often ask you to stop wearing contact lenses before their detailed tests, so tell us you wear them and we will advise you.
